The MAP test boycott has spread through Seattle

In a press conference that was held this morning at Garfield High School, it was announced that additional schools and the SEA Substitute Association have joined the teachers at Garfield High School in protest of the MAP test and in support of the teachers. Teachers at Orca K-8 and the elementary section of Salmon Bay K-8 have joined the boycott and are refusing to give the MAP test. Other schools that have taken positions in support of the boycott are Franklin High School, Ballard High School, West Seattle High School, Center School, Sanislo Elementary School and Schmitz Elementary School. As you might know by now, teachers at Garfield High School in Seattle held a press conference on Friday and announced that they were not going to give the Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP) test to their students for a number of reasons. This just in: 25 teachers at nearby Ballard High School signed a letter today stating support for their Garfield colleagues. Dear legislators: As the legislature works to produce a budget during this week’s special session, the Ballard High School PTSA urges lawmakers to be mindful of their paramount constitutional duty and focus first and foremost on amply funding our children’s education.
