Special guests and supporters, Seattle City Attorney Pete Holmes and his wife, Ann Holmes, as well as Seattle City Councilmember Nick Licata and his wife, Andrea Okomski, will be joining us to kick off this party, so please come early. Many thanks to my longtime friends and neighbors, Han & Shawn Nachtrieb, for generously hosting this event! The suggested minimum donation is $50.

We’ll have a no-host bar.
Please bring your friends. RSVP regrets only: kate@katemartinforschoolboard.com

Your Contribution Will Help Me Win In November
An additional note from Kate’s campaign newsletter:

In addition to a strong platform, I need a couple of things to win this election. One is votes and another is money. A thrifty and effective campaign for school board will cost me about $15K.

Unfortunately, there are no campaign contribution limits for school board races in Washington and my opponent will outspend me 10X. Her money, if at all like the last election, will come from 8 very wealthy couples on the Eastside.

Yet, just as in the primary, gobs of money didn’t determine the outcome because this school board election is about change. After all, the role of a school board director is to oversee, not overlook, what is happening with our schools and on that note alone, we need a reset.

Seattle can choose now to turn the current flavor of education reform on its ear and just say no to expensive ineffective ill-conceived solutions that ignore the needs of students, demean the role of teachers and discount the importance of families.

We need solutions that work. We need to put students, families, teachers and classrooms first. We need to make sure that every single student is engaged, inspired and fully challenged. We need our schools to maximize collaboration with families. We need to make sure that every single teacher is competent, enabled and supported and we need to cultivate 92 principals to toe the line for real education, real teaching and real learning, not bubble test prep and all the nonsense associated with it.

Help me get to work fixing Seattle Public Schools.
