About Navient

Navient is an American company headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, that provides services and collects student loans. Founded in 2014 to manage nearly $300 billion in education loans for more than 12 million debtors, the company split Sallie Mae into two separate entities: Sallie Mae Bank and Navient.

Although this is not a lender, it oversaw the government’s repayment of loan debt until former President Donald Trump suspended repayments in March 2020 in response to COVID-19.

President Joe Biden has repeatedly extended the legislation, most recently on December 22. Loan obligations have been postponed until May 1, 2022, owing primarily to the rise of the omicron variety.

It is also accused of making predatory subprime private loans to students attending for-profit schools and colleges with low graduation rates, despite knowing that a large proportion of such borrowers would be unable to repay the loans.

Student Loan Servicing

Private Student Loans

They service a variety of private loan programs, each with its own loan agreement and originator. Your loan agreement will outline some payoff options.

Not all borrowers have access to all options. Loan type, loan agreement terms and conditions, lender’s current policy and procedure, and the borrower’s and cosigner’s financial circumstances may all be factors in determining available options. At the lender’s discretion, additional options may be available.

Federal Student Loan – Public Service Loan Forgiveness

If you work for a government or a non-profit organization, including a religious organization, you may be eligible for loan forgiveness through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payment under a qualifying payoff-plan while working full-time for a qualifying payment employer for 10 years.

Borrowers who consolidate into the Direct Loans may be eligible for programs such as PSLF.

Borrowers with certain federal loan types qualifying months toward loan forgiveness under an IDR.

There are different types of loan forgiveness programs. For the most part, fill out the application form correctly and send it to your lender. When you include loan forgiveness in your payoff-plan, your debt is immediately forgiven when it reaches maturity.

Navient federal loan is being transferred to Aidvantage

Maximus Education’s loan servicing division is known as Aidvantage. All Navient-serviced Department of Education loans have been moved to Aid. You may have heard the terms Aid and Maximus Education thrown around in the media.

Frequently Asked Questions

The transfer of servicing to Aidvantage has no effect on eligibility for a forbearance steering payment.

The agreement also requires Navient to notify borrowers about the recently announced PSLF limited waiver opportunity, which allows millions of qualifying public service workers to have previously non qualifying repayment periods counted toward loan forgiveness if they consolidate into the Direct Loan Program and file employment certifications by October 31, 2022.
