Rally to veto the charter school bill and demand funding for PUBLIC schools

On Thursday, March 31st, parents will be at the Capitol Building in Olympia at 11:00 AM to protest the charter school bill that was passed recently through the state legislature funding charter schools using lottery money although nothing has been done to adequately fund public schools in our state based on the McCleary Act requiring that all public schools be adequately funded.  At this time the legislators are in contempt of court based on a judgment by the Washington State Supreme Court that our legislators have not performed their “Paramount Duty” to fund public schools properly.

Anyone interested in participating, please go to the Facebook page where you can sign up.

If you can’t make it to the event, please call, fax or speed message Governor Inslee and let him know funding needs first to be for public schools, not charter schools.

  • e-Message
    Send Gov. Inslee an e-message
  • Call
TTY/TDD users should contact the Washington Relay Service at 711 or 1-800-833-6388.
  • Fax

There probably will not be any students attending the rally because, unlike the charter school crowd, public school students will be in school during the school day.

Is there something symbolic in calling for the use of public lottery money in the funding of student-selective “lottery” schools?
