This just in.

First up, Diane Ravitch will be speaking at Town Hall on November 17th at 7:30 PM. The topic will be “Getting Our Schools Back on Track”. Advance tickets can be purchased through Town Hall.

Our very own Jesse Hagopian, a teacher in the Seattle Public School system and founding member of Seattle Equity Educators (SEE), had an article published in Common this week. Check out Shock Doctrine Schooling in Haiti: Neoliberalism Off the Richter Scale.

Another article relating to Naomi Klein’s book The Shock Doctrine by Salon writer David Sirota, describes how the tech industry, partnering with testing companies, is making a fortune on public school systems with testing and online learning that have not produced any positive results and are only sucking all of the cash out of our public school coffers. See The Shock Doctrine Comes to Your Neighborhood Classroom.

31 million children live below the poverty line. Their success or failure in public schools has little to do with the teacher and all to do with the society that we have created. All of the charter schools with their standardized curriculum and endless testing goes nowhere near what these children need to succeed. This article by William Fisher paints a poignant picture of what these children and their families face every day. See The Kids Count at truthout.

And for a little Eggplant humor…Dear Arne…Next Phase of RTTT.

Have a great week!
